Man Arrested After Gun Found In Carry-On Bag At Midway

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Champaign man on his way to Mexico wound up in the Midway Airport lockup Monday after security agents say they found a loaded gun in his carry-on baggage.

WBBM's Jim Gudas reports.

TSA spokesman Michael McCarthy says the man, identified by Chicago police as Mark Frobose of Champaign, went through security as he prepared to board a Southwest Airlines flight to Cancun.

McCarthy says the X-ray scanner detected a gun, which wound up having a bullet in the chamber and could have discharged.

Chicago police were called in. They arrested Frobose, 64, on a felony charge.

This incident was the 22nd time a gun was found in carry-on luggage at Midway this year, McCarthy said.

McCarthy says that's more than the number of guns found in carry-on luggage at Midway at this point last year and is part of a growing problem across the country.

Most passengers claim they either forgot the gun was in the bag or brought the wrong bag with them to the airport, he said. But that does not get them off the hook, he added.
