Man Arrested After Allegedly Hitting Women With Hammer On Bike Trail In Crystal Lake

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 48-year-old man has been arrested for an attack involving a hammer on a Crystal Lake bike trail that left two women injured Tuesday, according to police.

Wendy Kummerer, spokeswoman for The McHenry County Conservation District Police Department, said that a Woodstock man, Angel Reinaldo-Cardoza, has been taken into custody. He's being charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of armed violence and four counts of aggravated battery.

Kummerer said investigators aren’t sure why the attack happened or why the two women were targeted but are investigating. 

"The police had enough information to proceed with an arrest warrent," Kummerer said. 

Kummerer added the women were injured seriously enough to be taken to a hospital but were later released.
