CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An off-duty Chicago Police sergeant and a Cook County Sheriff's deputy chased down a suspect accused of attacking a 91-year-old man in Chinatown.

"He's 91 years old.  He was doing his regular walking outside the house. That's his routine,” Eddie Lau said of his father-in-law Yen Jit Wong.

Wong was beaten Tuesday as he was walking home about 12:15 in the afternoon on Wentworth near 24th.

A Cook County Sheriff's deputy and an off-duty Chicago Police sergeant were able to catch the 45-year-old man accused of beating the senior.

"I know the guy was caught, but it doesn't help anything with my father-in-law's situation right now,” Lau said.

Relatives of Wong have been gathering in Chicago, as word spread about the attack.
