(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A candle-making shop has been selling its wares in a southwest suburb for decades. Not surprisingly, business is brisk around the holidays.

“When you don’t know what to get anybody, you can get them a candle,” explained Nancy Fixari, whose family owns Marley Candles in the Mokena area.

Her father bought the business in 1979. Candles are made in a building right next to the shop, which looks like a house on 187th Street between Wolf Road and Southwest Highway.

The Angel Wings candle is the number one seller.

“It’s light, fresh, kind of smells like fresh laundry,” Fixari said.

Being around so many good scents all day has its pluses, she said.

“I go to the bank every morning. The girls at the bank say they love the smell of our money,” she said.

There are six employees in the business, including new business partner Luke Pomranky and candle maker Betsy Milligan.

Besides the shop in Mokena, the company is dipping into Internet sales at marleycandles.com
