CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Lyft is gifting Chicago and five other major cities with free bicycle rides to celebrate Earth Day on Monday, April 22 — and some good weather that is hopefully coming our way.

Lyft recently acquired Divvy and became the country's largest bikeshare service, which includes bikesharing companies in New York, Portland, San Fransisco, Washington, D.C. Columbus and Minneapolis. To boost bike riding participatation and curb carbon footprints from vehicles, Lyft is encouraging people to take a ride on them and explore the city for three hours, according to the company's blog post on the promo.

To go carbon-free for Earth Day, you need to download the app, click on "Choose a pass" and select "Explorer Pass." Enter promno code EARTHDAY19 in the promo code section. For more information, visit the Divvy information page

The company is working toward adding more electric cars to its service and big plans are in the works to launch Lyft scooters to Chicago, which has been received with mixed emotions from the transit community.

"So please ride a bike — your bike, a buddy’s bike, a neighbor’s bike, any bike — and do your part for the Earth," Lyft wrote about the deal.

Chicago has over 570 stations across Chicago and 6,000 bikes at almost every street corner. Check out the map of all the bike stations on the interactive map and plan for a free day of biking in 73 degree weather.
