CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --  All southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive from Hollywood Avenue to Randolph Street will be closed to traffic Sunday from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. to make way for bikers in this year's Chicago Triathlon.

Sections of Lower Wacker Drive and Columbus Avenue also will be closed for parts of the day Sunday. The McCormick Place Busway also will be closed until 11:45 a.m.

Nearly 10,000 triathletes are expected to compete over the weekend for the event that has been operating in the Windy City since 1983. This year, the race features its first traffic-free bike race -- hence the closures on Lake Shore Drive.

The swim takes place in Monroe Harbor east of Balbo and Lake Shore Drive. The bike route flows north on Lake Shore Drive to Hollywood Beach and back. Spectators will not be not allowed on Lake Shore Drive. Runners will start north of Monroe Street and Lake Shore Drive and continue along the intermediate Lake Front path south to 31st Street. At 31st Street, runners head north along the Lake Front path that enters Grant Park just north of Museum Campus. A great place to catch runners is at the aid station at Mile 1, which is southeast of Lake Shore Drive and Balbo near the Field Museum.
