Lightfoot Takes Wait-And-See Stance On Ald. Austin Raid

June 19, 2019 - 6:33 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lightfoot says she doesn't know any more than anybody else about the federal raid on Ald. Carrie Austin's Far South Side office.

"It's obviously a serious thing. I know what you know. I've been following the news reports over the course of the day,” Lightfoot said Wednesday.

The mayor was asked if Austin, 34th Ward, should keep her chairmanship of the Committee on Contract Oversight and Equity, a new panel created after Lightfoot took away Austin’s leadership on the Budget Committee.

"There's been no charges that have been brought. It's way too early for us to be thinking of those kinds of actions,” the mayor replied. “But obviously, it's a serious matter, and we'll continue to monitor it."

Mayor Lightfoot noted Ald. Danny Solis wore a wire for two years. It was known that other things would come from that, following the indictment of Ald. Ed Burke.
