CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Protesters gathered outside the Chicago offices of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Thursday after the acting director of ICE and said sanctuary policies like Chicago's are "threatening public safety."

Joining the protesters outside ICE offices in Chicago: Mayor Lightfoot.

"We will never ever succumb to the racist, xenophobic rhetoric of ICE,” she said.

Lightfoot said she’ll continue to ban ICE from access to any Chicago Police databases.

"CPD will not cooperate with them on any of their immigration raids. So, that's the reality,” she said.

The mayor called ICE the "political arm of the Trump re-election campaign.” She said the ICE director's statements about sanctuary cities is a diversion from impeachment proceedings on Capitol Hill.
