CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Attorneys for people who say they've been abused by priests have released a 181-page report - listing names and photos of 395 Illinois priests the lawyers believe were sexually abusive -- almost twice the number acknowledged by church officials.

"The purpose of this report is to disclose the scope of the peril that the Catholic bishops have chosen not to disclose and keep secret,” attorney Jeff Anderson said.

He has a long history of representing plaintiffs who say they were abused by priests. Now, he's out with what he calls "The Anderson Report," a compilation of 395 Illinois priests accused of being abusive.

The number 395 is almost twice what the church has acknowledged, statewide.

John O'Malley, special counsel for the Chicago Archdiocese, responds to Anderson's report.

"I think he knows that we report cases."

WBBM: Has the Archdiocese, is it still concealing priests who may even possibly be abusive?

"No,” O’Malley said. “The mere fact of an accusation should warrant you being identified as an abuser -- I think that's manifestly unfair and unjust."

The Archdiocese says in a statement that it reports all allegations it receives to authorities.
