CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – It’s days like this -- when the National Weather Service has put out a warning about high winds and waves on Lake Michigan -- that a long-treasured beach on the Far North Side loses a little more ground to erosion.

"I feel it in my apartment, like every wave."

Jenny Learner lives on Eastlake Terrace, next to Juneway Terrace Beach.

The beach is lost to erosion.

"Yeah, there was a beach, and I've wanted to live here my whole life, since I was a kid."

The sidewalk?  A buckled length of concrete.

"I've watched people fall and slip, like when the concrete starting falling. And I watched the most beautiful tree -- a 100-year-old tree – falling. And it could've been saved."

Learner said recently, for the first time, sand has washed up on her balcony.

She hopes somebody does something before it's too late.

"It's very heartbreaking. I don't want to leave. I really love the neighborhood and I love the people I've met over here."
