Kanye West Appears To Have Donated $150,000 To Jemel Roberson's Family

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- CBS Chicago and other news organizations are reporting that rapper Kanye West appears to have donated $150,000 to the family of Jemel Roberson, a security guard shot and killed by Midlothian police last Sunday.

A GoFundMe page that solicits donations for the family shows 10 donations of $15,000 each attributed to "Kanye West." As of Saturday morning, West had not confirmed he donated the money.

Roberson was shot to death by the unnamed Midlothian officer who responded as back-up as Roberson held his gun on a patron who had shot and wounded others in a bar in neighboring Robbins. The Midlothian Police Chief has said the shooting of Jemel Roberson was the equivalent of a blue-on-blue, friendly fire incident.

Clergy members from the city and suburbs are calling for the officer who shot and killed Roberson to be charged with murder. A vigil for the slain security guard was held outside Lane Tech High School Friday night. Roberson graduated from the school in 2000.
