(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The owners of a bar and grill in Kane County re-opened for dine-in service, with the blessing of local authorities.

Eddie Gaedel Pub and Grill in Elburn quietly opened last week to limited indoor seating on the advice of the village president and the police chief. Those officials say they will not enforce Gov. JB Pritzker’s order that keeps restaurants closed for indoor service.

Annette and Richard Theobald said some of their employees told them they weren’t comfortable yet and are not working.

They installed plastic sheeting and took out half of the tables, they said, to keep things safe.

At least one other Elburn bar might open, as well, but there's concern the state could pull its video gambling license.

Some suburban and downstate communities and business owners have pushed back at Pritzker’s restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, saying reopening is not a one-size-fits-all proposition.

The governor last week said restaurants may begin serving people outdoors, on patios, provided certain safeguards are taken.
