(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Officers found three dead dogs and nine living dogs -- some sick with malnourishment -- on the property of a South Elgin home, the Kane County Animal Control department said.

One of the three dead dogs was found inside the home in South Elgin. The other two were found on the property, officials said.

Director Brett Youngsteadt says animal control officers took nine living dogs away from the home. Their conditions ranged from malnourished to healthy, he said. Most of the dogs were a pitbull-type breed.

Youngsteadt says a woman was questioned by the sheriff’s office.

A call from a neighbor brought the sheriff’s office and animal control to the South Elgin home on Saturday.
