Jeb Bush Still Scheduled To Speak At Elmhurst College Event Wednesday

April 17, 2018 - 9:21 pm

ELMHURST (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- For weeks, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has been booked to be the keynote speaker at a Wednesday April 18 event sponsored by Elmhurst College -- and he apparently will keep that commitment.

Bush’s mother, former First Lady Barbara Bush, passed away Tuesday in Houston, yet Jeb Bush will still come to Chicago.

Bush, a 2016 candidate for president, indicated his mother would have wanted him to “honor this obligation,” the college said through a spokesperson.

Jeb Bush is participating in the 11th Annual Elmhurst College Governmental Forum. The sold-out event will be held 11:30 a.m. at Hilton Chicago Oak Brook Hills Resort & Conference Center in Oak Brook.

On Tuesday, the former Florida governor posted a statement on social media about his mother, who was 92.

“I’m exceptionally privileged to be the son of George Bush and the exceptionally gracious, gregarious, fun, funny, loving, tough, smart, graceful woman who was the force of nature known as Barbara Bush. Thank you for your prayers, and we look forward to celebrating and honoring her life and contributions to our family and great nation in the coming days.”
