CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Erika Harold, the Republican running for Illinois Attorney General is criticizing her Democratic opponent for an ad running against her.

Democratic State Senator Kwame Raoul’s ad recalls a report that when she was much younger, Conservative Republican Erika Harold said she would prefer to place a foster child in a home with a heterosexual couple that had past problems with child abuse, than in a home with a same-sex couple.

Harold has had to respond to that. She said she doesn't remember telling someone that statement, but if she did say that, she agrees it was wrong.

"If that is the question and that was my response, then it is absolutely wrong. But what I have also made clear is that I support the right of same-sex couples to be able to adopt and to be able to foster parent. I think the fact that Senator Raoul continues to misstate my position is something that is an insult to voters," Harold said.

"I have stated time and time again, that I support the right of same-sex couples to be able to adopt and to be able to be foster parents and that no child should be in an abusive environment."

Republican candidate for Attorney General Erika Harold is the guest on our At Issue program this weekend and you can hear more of her comments Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m.
