PARK FOREST (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Park Forest police officer who was critically wounded in the line of duty two years ago received a special recognition Monday night.

Lakewood Boulevard was shut down, as a portion of it was dedicated to Tim Jones. It’s now Honorary Officer Tim Jones Way.

Hired by the south suburb in 2015, Jones was shot in March 2016 while on the job. He was released from a rehabilitation facility a year later.

“Tim has demonstrated integrity, resolve and an unwillingness to give up in a very difficult and ongoing recovery process,” Park Forest Mayor John Ostenburg said.

Officers, family and friends huddled around Jones as his father unveiled the bright blue sign.
