CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- When skaters come off of the ice after hockey clinic sessions, soon to be held in a northern suburb, you may notice something interesting - they'll all be girls.

Starting this Saturday and for three other Saturdays in October and November, Glacier Ice Arena in Vernon Hills is offering hockey clinics for girls.

"It's really neat to kind of bring the girls together and just build those skills and help that confidence grow," said coach Charice Wilcynski.

Coach Wilcynski said she started noticing more girls taking an interest in the sport after the last Winter Olympics.

"We didn't really see many girls in our house and travel league and it just seemed like over the last two-three years we've really noticed girls becoming more interested because they're seeing the athletes on TV, they're seeing their brothers out there on the ice," Wilcynski said.

They've had skaters aged 3-years through high school age, and many of them were figure skaters who decided to give ice hockey a try.

"I really try to teach these girls to skate with fire in their bellies," Coach Wilcynski said.

Coach Wilcynski said a summer session they offered was so popular that they decided to offer these clinics, which you can learn more about at glacierskate.com.
