CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After his last full Chicago City Council meeting as mayor, Rahm Emanuel told reporters there are things he’ll be glad to leave behind.

It was the most emotional moment of an emotional news conference, as Emanuel discussed the things he’ll miss – and won’t miss – about the job.

He said he’ll miss visiting all parts of the city and some of the friendships he’s made with officials.

But when the topic came to the negative things, Emanuel emphasized the violence that has plagued some neighborhoods. He said he’s felt helpless while visiting families of children harmed by gun violence and only being able to offer them a hug at the hospital.

“I love the people of this city. I won’t miss the thugs that create those moments,” Emanuel said. “I have other words that I would say about them.”

The mayor said people who harm innocent people have no humanity.

“I won’t miss them.”
