CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some "high" times are coming to Illinois.

The Cannabis Cup is a contest to discover the best cannabis products the state has to offer. It is usually judged by celebrities and industry insiders; however, this year the Cup will be judged by the public. High Times launched the virtual versions of its signature Cannabis Cup events this spring in response to restrictions on large gatherings brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are excited to see the Cannabis Cup come to the Illinois market, as we continue to grow as an industry,” said Rise Illinois district manager Derrick Levy in an email to High Times. “This is a great opportunity for all of Illinois to come together and celebrate the legalization of cannabis in our home state.”

Founded in 1988, the Cannabis Cup has evolved into a globally recognized championship of the best cannabis products in the world. A blind competition judged by industry experts, the competition ranks entries as measured by the judges’ votes, and crowns the top three products per category, with the top spot earning the coveted Cannabis Cup trophy.
