CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Celebration of LatinX Illinoisans at the Thompson Center brought some encouraging words from Gov. J.B. Pritzker and some surprising ones from a prominent actor.

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports.

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White hosted the Hispanic Heritage Month event where Pritzker told the crowd he values having a diverse citizenry and a diverse cabinet that reflects the state.

One of the day’s honorees was Miguel Cervantes, the star of the Chicago company of “Hamilton.” He reminded the audience that he was from New York. And while the play is leaving Chicago in January, he said he’s staying here.

“I love this city, I love this community,” he said.
