(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago-area based pediatrician association is joining the call for curbing the consumption of sugary drinks by children and teens.

It's not just sugary sodas that the Itasca-based American Academy of Pediatrics along with the American Heart Association are taking aim at.

The AAP's Dr. Sheela Magge said some energy drinks can be just as bad.

Another target are fruit drinks with added sugar.

The medical groups are calling for better labeling to help parents identify overly sugary drinks; limits on marketing of such drinks; and taxes on sugary beverages, such as the one Cook County tried and quickly repealed in 2017.
