(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Glenview Police say three men with guns robbed a T-Mobile phone store Thursday afternoon and then fled down the Edens Expressway before two of the suspects were arrested at North Avenue Beach in Chicago.

State Police, Glenview Police and Chicago Police were all at North Avenue Beach as two of the men were arrested.

One of them was taken into custody as he emerged from Lake Michigan, while beachgoers watched.

"The police officers were yelling at him and saying, 'Drop it.' And he said, 'It's my phone.' They were yelling at him to drop it,” Marianne Swanson said.

She watched the arrest, along with her mother, Mary Hrycko.

"My sons are always kind of cautious about me because I'm 87 years old. They say, 'Don't be going to the beach. It's hard to walk on the sand. You might fall,” Mary said.

“Now they're really going to say, don't to the beach anymore."

Says Swanson: “I'll still bring her.”
