(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Just days after she was struck by a pickup truck in west suburban St. Charles, a 7-year-old girl is back home, and -- according to a recent visitor -- is in great spirits.

Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain called Lexi Hanson's recovery "a miracle."

"We went from 2 p.m. on Sunday, not knowing if she was going to make it, to Wednesday night when she got released," Hain told WBBM. "We're just so happy that she's made such a quick return."

When Hain heard the news, he was sure to be one of Lexi's first visitors.

"She hopped off the couch and gave me a hug. We already felt like we'd known each other for years,” he said Thursday.

Hain said the two spent time with a slime-making machine and he answered the young girl's questions about the Mother's Day incident in which prosecutors say 42-year-old Brian Quartuccio struck Hanson with his pickup and drove off.

"She is such a mature girl for 7 years old," Hain said. "She wanted to know how fast the pickup truck was traveling. She wanted details. Did she fall off the side of the truck? Did it run over her? She's just a very bright young lady."

Quartuccio is being held on $500,000 bond.
