(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Giordano's franchise has closed in Detroit, which some interpret as an indication Chicago-style deep dish is not welcome in the Motor City.

Several Detroit news outlets, including the Detroit News, reported the Giordano's location closed near the city's Greektown after less than two years in business.

Giordano's corporate tweeted at the News and said it was the franchise owner's decision to shutter the restaurant. "We are saddened by the decision of the franchisee to exit the market," the tweet said.

Detroit has a variety of pizza restaurants. The city's own style of pizza is baked in a rectangular pan and features a thick, crispy crust and stripes of marinara sauce. The cheese becomes browned and crispy along the edges of the pan.
