FTW: Romeoville Cops Rescue Ducklings From Drain

ROMEOVILLE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It was anything but ugly this week when two Romeoville police officers came to the aid of a mother duck who lost her ducklings in a stormwater drain.

Officers Alex Escobedo and Daniel Ponzi responded Sunday morning to a call of the trapped ducklings at a Jewel supermarket along Weber Road. Upon arrival, they were met by the clearly anxious mother duck, which paced around nervously.

The officers were able to get the cover off the drain opening. They used a net from an animal warden’s truck to scoop up the ducklings – grabbing more than a half-dozen in one pull.

Officers returned all of the ducklings safely to their mother.
