AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Four Aurora police officers will receive the highest honor bestowed by the department -- medals of valor -- in a ceremony later this week.

Aurora Police say Officers Ryszard “Rick” Drozdowski and Bradley Vonhoff will be awarded medals of valor for trying to save the life of a 95-year-old woman whose car plunged into a retention pond last May.

Several people, including the two officers, worked to free the woman from her car. The woman died the next day.

Aurora Police say Special Operations Investigators Colin Griffin and Matthew Huber will receive medals for their response last March when a suspect fired at police after a traffic stop.

Officer Griffin was shot in the leg. The suspect was shot and killed by officers.

The ceremony will take place 3 p.m. Wednesday.
