Former Suburban Police Civilian Worker Charged With Stealing Evidence

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The DuPage County State’s Attorney and Villa Park Police Department announced Thursday that a former civilian employee at the Villa Park Police Department has been charged with stealing evidence. 

John Simons, 48, turned himself in Tuesday. 

According to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, Simons allegedly stole hydrocodone pills from the from the evidence vault of the Villa Park Police Department on Oct. 10. 

After being confronted with the allegation, officials said Simons resigned. 

State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said thee’s no room for that type of behavior at any workplace, let alone at a police department.

Simons is free after posting 10 percent of his 10,000 dollar bond.  He has been charged with two counts of official misconduct, one count of theft of government property, one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of misdemeanor theft.
