CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Ford has unveiled an addition to it's "pony" car family, and this one comes with some twists.

The target for Ford's newest Mustang is to go from zero-to-60 in the mid-3-second range, and what is different about this one is it is an electric vehicle.

It's the Mustang Mach-E SUV.

"Two big changes for folks who are Mustang lovers, for sure, but the great thing is when we talked to owners of mustangs and brought them in to look at the new product, they all say the same thing, 'thank goodness you are not replacing the Mustang that I know and love, you are adding to the Mustang stables.'"

Jason Mase with Ford stresses that it is an expansion of the Mustang family.

"So, I can have my performance vehicle I've always had, but now if I want, I can have a performance utility I can drive everyday and in Chicagoland I can handle all-wheel drive and all other traction," Mase said.

"The range on it is up to 300 on a full charge and the pricing starts as low as just under $45,000."

Just unveiled ahead of this week's Los Angeles Auto Show, you will get a chance to see the new electric Mustang when it comes to McCormick Place for the Chicago Auto Show, which runs Feb. 8-17.

"We are super excited to share it with the Chicago market and it's a great thing for Chicago, too, to have that clear space on the show calendar. It always meant a lot to manufacturers, but it's going to mean even more now, so I think Chicago folks are going to see a ton of great product this winter," Mase said.
