CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Another month at home to slow the curve means a lot of us will be looking a little shaggy when we finally emerge.

A suburban salon owner encourages people to fight the urge to cut or color their own hair.

Of course, Kirsten Kauffman Perelli, who owns Ginger Root in St. Charles, has the luxury of being a professional stylist herself — and she's married to one as well.

Male clients who feel they must cut their hair should do it with electric trimmers and not scissors for safety’s sake, she advises.

Since we're supposed to stay home, anyway, she encourages those with roots showing or in need of a cut to wait it out as long as possible.

However, she acknowledges that looking good helps people feel good, and that's important in these challenging times.

Perelli says she's contemplating posting tutorials online for short-term fixes and is ready to correct any at-home mistakes when the Illinois “stay at home” order expires or is lifted early.
