Flyers Condemning Officer Van Dyke Surface In Chicago

August 15, 2018 - 10:09 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Flyers have surfaced around Chicago declaring police officer Jason Van Dyke is guilty of the murder of Laquan McDonald.

The flyers and larger posters have popped up at events in the city, including the Bud Billiken Parade last weekend.

There’s a picture of Van Dyke and the words “guilty of racist murder.” What’s raised some eyebrows is a picture of one of the flyers on the inside of one of the windshields of a Chicago Streets and Sanitation truck.

The department said an investigation showed the driver accepted a flyer at the parade. The driver cast the paper on the dashboard to get it out of the way – an honest mistake, a spokesperson said.

It’s unclear who took that picture that’s being shared on social media.

Van Dyke is expected to go to trial next month on murder changes. A judge has been setting guidelines for the proceedings to ensure he gets a fair trial.

Van Dyke, who is white, fatally shot 17-year-old McDonald in 2014 during a confrontation between the black teen and police.
