CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Obama Presidential Center has gotten the OK from the Chicago City Council and contractors have been hired to build it but it still isn't clear when it will come to fruition.

The Chicago Tribune reported that the $500-million project that's to be built in Jackson Park on the South Side is delayed, in part to a very slow federal review process.

The federal review is taking place because Jackson Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and Crain's Chicago Business reported that ecause the development involves closing and expanding major streets.

Construction cannot start until the federal review process wraps up.

The city has indicated that more information will be released in January.
