CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Federal workers affected by the partial government shutdown rallied with members of Congress Friday and demanded an end to the partisan standoff.

After meeting with unionized workers, Democratic members of Congress like Jan Schakowsky said it is a travesty that some federal employees are being forced to keep working without pay during a standoff between her party and President Trump.

Rallying in Federal Plaza, Agriculture Department worker Florence Cannon said she’s now eligible for food stamps, a program she helped monitor.

Participants chanted, "End the shutdown now!"

Freshman Congresswoman Lauren Underwood said the shutdown should not be happening over funding for a southern border wall President Trump insists on.
