CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The mobile food pantry for the Northern Illinois Food Bank is making it easier for those who need help putting food on the table.

Archana Liggins, an area representative for the Northern Illinois Food Bank said, “the mobile food pantry, as you can see here, is like a converted beverage-food truck that basically brings the food to the community.”

The day we caught up with the mobile food pantry, it was outside a number of apartment buildings in Joliet.

“They don’t have to walk or get a ride or take a bus or train. They can pretty much come out the building and they’ve got the mobile food truck here at the building," Liggins said.

The Northern Illinois Food Bank has two mobile food pantries that travel to 13 counties outside Cook. They offer everything from beef, pork and fish to cereals, potatoes and canned goods.

After getting food from the mobile food pantry, senior citizen Ora Brown praised it.

“It helps a lot. It’s a blessing,” she said.
