(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Workers at dozens of fast food restaurants around Chicago staged a video strike Wednesday, accusing their bosses of failing to do enough to protect them from COVID-19.

The strikers demanded more masks, gloves, sanitizer, deep cleaning of restaurants and physical barriers to protect them from customers who may have the coronavirus.

Adriana Alvarez of Fight for 15, one of the strike organizers, says fast-food restaurants should also provide more financial compensation to workers.

A McDonald's worker has filed a federal complaint against the company, accusing it and its franchise owners of forcing employees to work without adequate protection.

McDonald's and franchise owners have released several statements saying they are taking steps to help their workers protect themselves from COVID-19.
