Extra Police To Patrol CTA During Holiday Weekend

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago police say they are ready to deal with any violence or crime that pops up on mass transit over this holiday weekend.

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said he has deployed additional officers this holiday weekend, and that includes on the CTA.

"There are more than 1,500 additional CPD officers on the street this weekend," Johnson said.

Johnson said 44 additional officers are patrolling CTA buses, trains and El stations along with the 172 officers regularly assigned to the mass transit unit.

Johnson also said the CTA also has more 32,000 cameras system wide to catch criminals in the act. He said anyone who causes any problems on the CTA this holiday weekend will be caught.
