CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayoral candidate Robert Fioretti is outlining government reform proposals that include cutting the number of Chicago aldermen and wards in half.

Fioretti, a former alderman, said he’s for term limits and independent ward remapping. His boldest proposal, though, is to shrink the Chicago City Council from 50 members to 25.

He said Los Angeles, which has 1 million more residents than Chicago, has only 15 council members. Chicago could meet residents’ needs and solve problems with just 25 aldermen, he said.

"This city is based upon politician having their hands in everyone else's pocket but their own, and we have to change that," Fioretti said.

Fioretti is the guest on “At Issue” at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
