CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Reid Nuttall owns the Cool Clouds vape shops in Evergreen Park and Tinley Park.

Nuttall says some health officials and the media are incorrectly lumping in vaping products with nicotine sold in legitimate shops and products that contain the active ingredient in marijuana that are sold on the black market or on the streets.

”We’ve had a real public emergency with black market THC cartridges that are giving people lipoid pneumonia. The products are not being made correctly. They’re not being bought from medical dispensaries or in a legal sense here. They’re essentially street drugs,” Nuttal said.

Nuttall says he has seen a drop in business, mainly from current smokers who might have thought about vaping as way to help them quit but who are now afraid to.

He says discouraging smokers from what he says is a proven method to help them quit is also a public health crisis.
