CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Emanuel is obliquely responding to a dig at him from former Mayor Richard Daley’s brother, Bill.

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports from City Hall.

In a radio interview last week, Mayor Emanuel seemed to blame Richard M. Daley’s tenure as mayor for Emanuel’s need to raise taxes. In response, Bill Daley said Emanuel should put “the big boy pants on” and acknowledge his own actions.

“I believe, as I always have, the mayor loves the city and served the city,” Emanuel said Monday when asked to respond.

“But we had a situation, given what was happening on both the education front – the finances of the schools -- the fiscal condition of the city – that explained why we had to address what we had to address to both stabilize our finances, stabilize our pensions, which created an environment for an unprecedented corporate and business relocation to the city of Chicago.”

He never got around to mentioning Bill Daley, a former U.S. Commerce secretary who also served in the Obama White House.
