CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Emanuel said he is not speculating on what federal investigators were after in raiding powerful Ald. Ed Burke’s City Hall and Ward offices yesterday. He also won’t discuss the Finance Committee chairman’s fate.

Mayor Emanuel said that if reporters have a thousand questions swirling around the Thursday FBI raid on Burke’s offices…he has two thousand. And he refused to say whether Burke should step down as Finance Committee chair or Alderman with this cloud hanging over him.

Emanuel talked with reporters Friday about the raid that saw federal agents carry out search warrants at two of Burke's offices. Burke said he wasn't sure what investigators were probbaing and added that he would cooperate with the probe.

The mayor noted that Burke hasn't been charged with anything. But, he went on to say that Alderman Burke’s future will be decided by voters in the elections next year.

Burke said he’s been investigated before and cooperated and nothing came of it. He expects the same this time. Burke says HE is confident the feds won’t find anything amiss in their investigation and he’s cooperating.

The Aldermanic elections are in about three months and Burke has four challengers.
