CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Mayor Emanuel is ridiculing the Trump Administration and reporters for writing stories suggesting the White House would try to block Chicago’s police-reform plans.

Emanuel said even the journalists who first reported U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ intent to oppose the so-called consent decree in court conceded it’s largely a symbolic gesture.

“You guys have got to stop acting like Pavlovian little mice, chasing every time Donald Trump says something,” the mayor said Wednesday during a public appearance. “It doesn’t have any value.”

Sessions this week said Chicago is going down the wrong road with police reform, as President Trump again recommended another look at the controversial “stop and frisk” police technique. City officials have worked with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office on a plan to have the federal courts monitor CPD.

“You guys are getting played,” Emanuel told reporters. “We’ve got real work to do. We’re going to be in front of a judge. We’re committed to the reforms. We’re committed to seeing them through.”
