SPRINGFIELD (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- When presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden chooses a running mate, the senior U.S. senator from Illinois said he need look no further than the junior U.S. senator.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) would make an excellent vice president and, should the need arise, a qualified president.

Duckworth lost both legs when her Army helicopter was shot down over Iraq in 2004.

“I have never seen such demonstrated courage in my life in an individual. She is respected widely. When she ran (for U.S. Senate) in this state, she ended up carrying some downstate counties I don’t carry, because they respect her service to our country and her grit and courage and determination,” said Durbin. “Blue state, red state, it’s unimportant. What’s important is that Joe Biden picks someone who can take over as president, and Tammy can.”

Prepared and qualified to enter the Oval Office if something happens to Biden? Durbin said, well, nobody really is.
