(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- DuPage County Board Member Pete DiCianni is under fire for the way he acted at a pro-police rally in Elmhurst this past weekend.

Fellow DuPage County Board Member Elizabeth Chaplin says she was disturbed by the behavior of DiCianni, who was seen yelling up-close at counter-demonstrators without a mask.

Chaplin wants the 2nd District member censured by the board.

DiCianni , a former Elmhurst mayor, says the gathering Saturday was meant to honor police officers and he took off his mask to shout over the protesters’ taunts.

He admits he was angry, but says he won't apologize for passionately defending those who put their lives on the line every day.

Chaplin says DiCianni also answered an angry constituent's email with a vulgar response.

DiCianni faults himself for the response but said the constituent used hateful language and called him a racist.

He said Elmhurse police are welcoming and value diversity.
