(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Bradley Hides has played saxophone since he was in fourth grade. He picked up a guitar at 15 and hasn't put it down since.

"I've been in several different bands, I've written music and performed original music," he said.

Before the pandemic, he played acoustic shows at bars and restaurants across Chicagoland. When the gigs stopped and the restaurants closed, he decided to do his shows in his basement.

"It kinda came to me that I'd like to help people out if I could. I started pretty much right away that second or third week of March, and it's continued since then.”

For more than nine weeks now, Hides has live-streamed his shows, raising money for the restaurant industry.

"I'll target a specific business. I'll let them know ahead of time that I'm planning on doing a live-stream performance and I'd like to dedicate the performance to their staff who is out of work currently.”

The Downer's Grove musician raised money for places where he's played. The venues include Pollyanna Brewing Company, The Barrel House Social in LaGrange, Brickies Bar and Grill in Brookfield, Lucky Monk in Barrington, Beer head in Elmhurst, BaseCamp Pub & Eatery at Four Lakes in Lisle and Crosstown Pub & Grill in Batavia.

He said it's the least he can do for places that have given him so much.

"It's not life-changing amounts of money, but it's something,” he said.

Hides says it's been gratifying to be able to give back and to interact with his friends and fans on a weekly basis.

Music, he says, truly brings people together even when we're apart.

"Overall, it's been great for  both sides. I've been donating to people who are out of work and it's been great interacting with people, keeping in touch and also try to help out in some small way,” he said.
