(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- When going through breast-cancer treatment, some things will keep patients up at night.

“What we try to do is find a way where we can help them,” says Lou Ann Peck.

Her not-for-profit group in Joliet, Breast Intentions, has a focused mission to help patients.

"We're not here to cure cancer,” Peck says. “We really want to help them with the daily essential needs because sometimes your illness overtakes everything else.

Peck says, in one case, her group gave $100 to a mother who couldn't pay the volleyball fee for her daughter. Another time, a young patient needed help with her insurance.

Patients are referred to the organization through doctors, nurse navigators, and others. The money to help them comes from fundraisers.

Peck explains: "Twice a year, we have Boobie Bingo, and it's amazing what we do. We fill the VFW Post.”

They're also excited about the Tony n' Tina's Wedding, an immersive comedy show being held on March 27 at Jacob Henry Mansion in Joliet.
