CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago native will grace an upcoming issue of People Magazine, and you've likely never heard of her.

Her name is Kele.

"She is a beautiful, eight-month-old cat," Erin Mayes, Assistant Director of Feline Behavior at PAWS Chicago, tells WBBM NEWSRADIO. "She's white with a little bit of brown, pink little nose and pink little toes."

Kele has been living at the shelter since being transferred from Chicago Animal Care and Control earlier this year.

"We suspect that she was born with a congenital defect of the spine."

As a result, Kele must wear diapers and receive baths once a day, but that doesn't hinder her personality.

"She's pretty much everything a person could possibly want in a kitten," Mayes said Wednesday. "She's playful, she's a little mischievous, she's incredibly affectionate and sweet with people. She's kind of the entire package."

She's also one of nine pets nationwide to be featured in People's upcoming spread promoting the annual “Clear the Shelters” adoption drive next Saturday.

"It's a great way to get adoptable dogs and cats promoted. At PAWS, dogs seven months and older and cats one year and older have their adoption fees waived,” Mayes said.

"We are going to be thrilled when the right person decides to give this little girl a chance,” she said, referring to Kele. “That's what she needs: She needs somebody with patience and a big heart."
