CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The man who oversaw the city of Detroit’s planning and development has officially received Mayor Lightfoot’s nomination to do the same thing here.

Maurice Cox said his goal in efforts to revitalize Detroit was to make sure development was distributed equitably to all of that city’s neighborhoods.

Mayor Lightfoot said in her statement announcing Cox’s nomination as Chicago’s commissioner of Planning and Development that his experience in Detroit makes him uniquely qualified to lead efforts in Chicago.

Eleanor Gorski, who served as Chicago’s acting planning and development commissioner, will remain as first deputy.

Detroit, for years known for its problems with urban blight, has experienced a rennaissance of redevelopment in recent years.
