CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- DePaul University has made an administrative move, appointing Kathryn Stieber as secretary of the university effective July 1.

In a press release, the university said Stieber has been appointed by the board of trustees and will also take the role of vice president and general counsel.

Stieber has served as assistant university secretary since 2019 and as deputy general counsel since 2007.

DePaul President A. Gabriel Esteban, Ph.D called Steiber a consistent leader within a diverse range of areas at the university.

"I am grateful for her willingness to serve as general counsel, and I look forward to working closely with her as DePaul continues to deliver our students a transformative education, grounded in our Catholic and Vincentian values," Esteban said in a statement.

The Office of the Secretary oversees the fulfillment of legal requirements for reporting and record-keeping for DePaul, the nation’s largest Catholic university with more than 22,000 students. The Office of the Secretary manages the work of the board of trustees and the members of the corporation to facilitate their services to the university.

Stieber has a J.D. from the Southern Methodist University School of Law in Dallas. She earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Northwestern University.
