(670 The Score) -- Cubs infielder/outfielder Ben Zobrist's leave of absence from the team comes as he's going through divorce proceedings, according to reports Wednesday that cited court records.

Julianna Zobrist has filed for divorce with the Circuit Court of Cook County, per reports. Ben has been away from the Cubs since last Wednesday, with the team previously only citing a personal matter.

It's unclear when Ben will return to the Cubs, who have termed his absence "indefinite." Ben also reported five days late to Cubs spring training due to a personal matter that was excused by the team.

In a development later Wednesday, Ben also filed for divorce from Julianna in Williamson County in Tennessee, the Tennessean reported. The couple owns a home there. In that filing, Ben alleges that Julianna "has been guilty of inappropriate marital conduct which render further cohabitation impossible," according to the Tennessean.

Ben, 37, was the MVP of the World Series when the Cubs broke their 108-year championship drought in 2016. He has struggled this season, hitting .241 with a .596 OPS and just one extra-base hit in 83 at-bats. His .253 slugging percentage is the lowest of any position player on the team.

"He would be the first to admit that he wasn't quite himself," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said on May 8. "We are just wanting this to work out for him obviously and be patient with the whole thing. I will stay in touch with him in a different way and being a good ear for him when it is necessary. Those are the things you do in these moments. You think about your internal relationships with your family. You never run away from your folks, from your people regardless of how awful the situation is or seem you need to be there for them."
