Cubs Acquire RHP Brandon Kintzler From Nationals

July 31, 2018 - 3:00 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago Cubs have acquired right-handed relief pitcher Brandon Kintzler from the Washington Nationals in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Jhon Romero.

To make room for Kintzler on Chicago’s 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Justin Hancock has been transferred to the 60- day disabled list, the Cubs announced Tuesday.

Kintzler, who turns 34 tomorrow, is 1-2 with 15 holds, two saves and a 3.59 ERA (17 ER/42.2 IP) in 45 relief appearances with Washington this season, the Cubs said in a news release announcing the trade.

The near-deadline move comes as Chicago has tried to strengthen its bullpen as the second half of the season kicks into gear.
