CTA Service Resumes Monday Morning, Remains Suspended Downtown

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- CTA bus and rail service resumed Monday morning across Chicago, after being suspended Sunday evening due to citywide protested. However, no trains or buses will operate in or near the downtown area.

Monday's service may be subject to service disruptions depending on public activity, the CTA said on its website and advises riders to check website for latest updates.

According to the CTA, service resumed at 6 a.m. Monday after being suspended at 6:30 p.m. Sunday “at the request of public safety officials,” the transit agency said. However, service remains suspended in and around the downtown area. 

The CTA said to seek alternatives, including buses and trains away from the downtown area.

These changes will be in effect until further notice, the CTA said.

Here is the following CTA route schedule:

Red Line: Red Line service will be temporarily suspended between Belmont and 47th at the request of public safety officials.

As a result, trains will operate in two sections:

  • between Howard and Belmont, and,
  • between 47th and 95th/Dan Ryan, only.

Blue Line: Blue Line service will be temporarily suspended between Western (O'Hare branch) and Western (Forest Park branch) at the request of public safety officials.

As a result, trains will operate in two sections:

  • between O'Hare and Western (O'Hare branch), and,
  • between Western (Forest Park branch) and Forest Park, only.

Brown Line: Brown Line service will be temporarily suspended between Loop and Belmont at the request of public safety officials.

As a result, trains will operate only between Kimball and Belmont.

Pink Line: Pink Line service will be temporarily suspended between the Loop and Western at the request of public safety officials.

As a result, trains are operating only between 54th/Cermak and Western.

Green Line: Green Line service will be temporarily suspended between California and 47th at the request of public safety officials.

As a result, trains are operating in two sections:

  • between Harlem/Lake and California, and,
  • between 47th and 63rd Street terminals, only.

Orange Line: Orange Line service will be temporarily suspended between the Loop and 35th/Archer at the request of public safety officials.

As a result, trains will operate only between Midway and 35th/Archer.

Purple Line: Purple Line Express service will be temporarily suspended between Loop and Belmont at the request of public safety officials.

As a result, trains will operate only between Linden and Belmont.

Bus service: Bus service not running in the area between Western and the lakefront, from Fullerton to 47th Street, at the request of public safety officials.
